The book is divided into 12 sections each of which deals with surgical procedures on a regional basis or as a surgical discipline. The illustrations which accompany each surgical procedure are arranged sequentially with the explanatory text and accompanying captions interposed. This highly visual layout makes each procedure simple to follow. The text is supported by over 500 drawings and 100 photographs.
An introductory chapter describes general surgical principles and subsequent chapters then cover surgery of the head and neck, abdominal surgery, ophthalmic surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, and amputations. It is aimed particularly at practitioners who perform surgery relatively frequently, at practitioners within the mixed practice, and at veterinary students who require an overall grasp of all the surgical techniques required in general practice.
